Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) was originated in the 1970s. It is usually a short treatment (several weeks to several months) and very effective. It is the most popular treatment today, in most of the world. According to CBT, the focus of treatment should not be what created the problem in the past, but what sustains the problem in the present time. In other words, there is no need to focus on the client’s early childhood, but rather to see how obstacles to solving problems at hand can be removed. This treatment has been proven to be the most effective treatment for depression and anxiety in countless studies, sometimes even more effective than medication.
The treatment combines conversations with structured tasks to work on between sessions. Through these, the client learns coping methods, changes the way they think and feel towards certain situations and acquires confidence.
At the end of the treatment, the client retains practical tools that enable them to cope with difficulties in the future.
